About us

Milton Keynes Play Association (MKPA) has been working with the community for over 45 years – since the early days of Milton Keynes – providing support for the members of staff and volunteers that work with children and young people in Milton Keynes and the surrounding area.

There are three core services that we offer: play, training and the provision of resources. These three together allow MKPA to encourage the development of individuals and organisations through play in the local community. We also offer a wide range of activities and courses as well as stage fun and exciting events across the region.

If you are interested in becoming a member, annual fees start at just £10 for an individual and you gain immediate access to our huge range of training, equipment hire and retail shop resources!
Milton Keynes Play Association (MKPA) has been supporting the community for over 45 years. Throughout this time we have gathered many generations’ worth of knowledge and experience, so we like to think we know a thing or two about playing! The understanding that comes with our background helps us to provide support for the members of staff and volunteers that work with children and young people in and around Milton Keynes.

MKPA has two guiding principles: Making Play Happen and Making Play Matter. Knowing how vitally important these are to our children, we constantly strive to spread our message, training and resources to the wider community.

Play

As our name would suggest, play is a fundamental part of what we do. We are always striving to find new and fun ways for children to play in safe and friendly environments and part of what we do involves:

  • Milton Keynes-wide organised events that are open to all youngsters, free of charge
  • Comprehensive guidance, advice, information and practical support to help you set-aside an area for safe and fun play
  • Supply of a huge array of equipment to aid play through membership of the MKPA Equipment Library Training

By utilising our many years of experience and through the dedication of our staff, we are able to offer a variety of qualifications, from getting the most out of play, to supporting children who suffer from ADHD. Some of the popular topics include:

  • Courses to support children with special needs
  • Arts and crafts workshops
  • Courses to meet OFSTED standards: First Aid, Health & Safety, conducting risk assessments, basic food hygiene, safeguarding children (a basic awareness of Child Protection etc)

Training

See MKPA Training for more details of our current training programme.

Resources

The hiring of equipment supplements the resources and supplies that can be purchased in our Scrapstore and Resource Unit Art, Craft & Play Shop.

  • Our aim is to be able to provide affordable resource, previously unwanted by business and industry through our much loved Scrapstore supported by essential supplies in our Shop. From paper and card to fur and plastics – and much, much more – it is accurately described as being like an Aladdin’s cave.
  • The MKPA Art, Craft & Play Resource Unit Shop is here to provide you with a wide variety of products at competitive prices
  • We have a comprehensive range of equipment for hire, whether you want it for your own event or party, or if you want to help raise funds yourself

We pride ourselves on being able to source products even if we don’t stock them, so if you are ever left wanting a particular product to help with your play activities do not hesitate to make a request.
